Find a username using the online generator
If you don’t feel like searching for a name for a long time, online generators can do the work for you. Here you can enter a term, for example your name or nickname, and select a category. If you press “Go!”, you will receive a list of different suggestions for the user name, matching the selected category.
The VPN provider also offers a name generator. There you can also check whether the suggested username is still available on various platforms such as YouTube, Reddit or Steam.
The provider of the popular password manager Lastpass also offers a name generator. Here, a username can be created using various options such as “Easy to pronounce” or “Easy to read”.
Find the same username on all platforms
If you have already come up with a great username and now want to log in with the same name on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and Steam, but don’t want to change your name, use the following sites to help you:

- The website Checkusernames.com is also helpful. The portal offers a similar service and shows you numerous networks and the availability of your selected name at a glance. If you can still select the user name, you can click on a link next to the small network logo. You will then be redirected to register with the relevant portal.
Finding the perfect username
We can’t really give you a guide to finding the perfect username, as the name depends on the portal you want to register on. In addition, a username should be as individual as possible and you know yourself best.
But we do have a few tricks up our sleeve:
- Leave out your date of birth or year. This is boring and even dangerous, because fraudsters can do a lot with the date of birth and other information in your name.
- Do you have a sense of humor? Perhaps one of the funny names we have compiled elsewhere will appeal to you.
- Unique nicknames, favorite songs, movie or series characters, superheroes or well-known names in a modified form are almost always suitable. However, they are also very popular.
