What the cabinet had to get right

Simple mechanics traveled to the browser
The clearest inheritance is in reel games. A three-reel game with a handful of paylines is doing exactly what a cabinet did: one screen, one input, an outcome you can read without interpretation, and a resolution fast enough that the next attempt is immediate.
